Laser Therapy
Laser therapy is a painless and non-invasive procedure that is used in physiotherapy to promote soft tissue healing, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation. Recent research strongly supports laser therapy as an effective treatment modality in treating patients with different musculoskeletal disorders. Here are some examples of conditions where laser therapy can help:
- Ligament sprains, such as ankle sprain or knee sprain
- Muscle strains
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Tennis elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Neck pain
- Low back pain
- Acute and chronic pain from conditions such as fibromyalgia or osteoarthritis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Wounds, such as surgery incision or diabetic wounds
- And more
NorthCare Physiotherapy has different laser therapy equipment, including a modern scanning laser therapy device. During the procedure, you will not feel any pain, vibration, or heat in the part of your body being treated. You and your physiotherapist will use laser safety glasses to protect your eyes from laser beams, and each laser therapy treatment typically takes only a few minutes.

Dry Needling
Muscles sometimes develop knotted areas called trigger points. These trigger points are highly sensitive and can be very painful when touched. They can also cause referred pain in other parts of your body. Dry needling is a procedure where a thin, sterile acupuncture needle is inserted into the muscle in order to release trigger points and reduce muscle spasm. It can also increase range of motion that may be limited due to muscle tightness or scar tissue. Our highly experienced physiotherapists at NorthCare Physiotherapy will provide you with a safe and effective dry needling treatment when it is considered a suitable treatment option for you.
Who should not receive dry needling treatments?
- Pregnant women
- People who are not able to understand the treatment
- People who are very afraid of needles

ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD THERAPY
Electromagnetic therapy is a non-invasive, extremely safe modality that uses a low-level electromagnetic field to target damaged tissue, relieve pain, and stimulate body’s own healing process. Magnetic field therapy can be applied to promote bone healing, treat osteoarthritis, and reduce pain and inflammation. It can also improve neurological function by cortical activation and activating various neurotransmitters in patients with neurological conditions, such as stroke or Multiple sclerosis. Here are some examples of conditions for which electromagnetic field therapy can be an exciting alternative treatment option:
- Osteoarthritis
- Stroke
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Neuropathy
- Fractures
- Acute or chronic pain, such as sprains or fibromyalgia
- Sleep Management
- And more
A large benefit of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy is that there are absolutely no side-effects, and treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. It is applied by inserting a solenoid around the body part being treated, and it will create an electromagnetic field which penetrates through the body tissues. Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy improves blood circulation and increases oxygen distribution around the body, making it a very effective and non-invasive therapeutic option for patients with different musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

SHOCKWAVE THERAPY
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive and highly effective treatment modality used by physiotherapists to treat subacute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions that have resulted in persistent pain and decreased range of motion. Shockwave therapy applies strong acoustic energy pulses to the affected area which helps with faster bone and soft tissue healing, revascularization, and breaking down scar tissues and calcification. Here are some examples of conditions that shockwave therapy can help:
- Plantar Fasciitis/Heel Spur
- Achilles Tendinopathy
- Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper’s Knee)
- Hip Bursitis
- Hamstring Tendinopathy
- Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)
- Medial Epicondylitis (Golfer’s Elbow)
- Painful Shoulder (Calcification, Rotator Cuff Tendonitis)
- Frozen Shoulder
- Chronic Stress Fractures
- And more
After completion of your physical examination, your physiotherapist will provide recommendations if shockwave therapy can be an appropriate and effective treatment option for your injury.
